Halifax man gets 10 year sentence for fatal crash

HALIFAX – A Halifax man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison in connection to a 2011 crash that took the life of a 67-year-old man.

Drew William MacPherson was found guilty of eight charges in June, including impaired driving causing death.

The evidence presented in court shows he was going 140 km/h on Barrington Street under the MacKay Bridge when he struck a taxi, and killed its passenger Ward Robinson from Cole Harbour.

Speaking to Global Halifax, Robinson’s daughter Marsha said they’re pleased with the 10-year sentence.

“I think we’re very happy,” Marsha said.

“Four years of trying to get to this point is a long time, and it’s hard to heal when you’re going through this over and over again.”

MacPherson maintains his innocence the case, and with credit for time served he will serve another 6.5 years in prison.

He is also banned from driving for 15 years after he leaves prison.
