Clam Harbour Beach Sandcastle Competition goes Sunday

With sunny skies and temperatures expected to be in the high 20s, beaches in Nova Scotia will be packed this weekend, but one beach will probably be busier than the rest.

Thousands are expected to turn out Sunday at Clam Harbour Beach for the 37th annual sandcastle competition.

The event goes from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m., with judging taking place at 3 p.m.  Prizes will be awarded in the adult, youth and child categories at 4:30 p.m.

Parking is only allowed on the right hand side of the Clam Harbour and Beach roads, on the side of the street heading toward the beach.

Cars parked in the other direction could be ticketed or towed.

As parking is limited, a free shuttle bus will be running to bring people from designated stops along Clam Harbour Road to the beach.

Only service animals will be allowed on the shuttle, and with the hot conditions and big crowds, people are encouraged to leave their pets at home.

Organizers recommend people bring their own sunscreen and water, however food vendors will be on site.
