George the dog’s condition slowly improving

A local animal rescue group says the condition of an abused and malnourished dog is starting to improve.

George was found the old Georgefield Landfill Site in Hants County, the emaciated boxer-mix had a rope tightly wound around his neck, and his body was full of sores.

Shelley Cunningham of Litters ‘n Critters told NEWS 95.7 George is making baby steps on the road to recovery.

“His eyes look a little bit brighter, he doesn’t have his IV in anymore so he’s getting quite hydrated, he’s eating and drinking so he’s keeping everything down,” she explained. “He’s got some really nasty cuts and sores on him, so he’s getting them laser treated which helps the skin rejuvenate faster and allows it to heal faster.”

Veterinarians say the dog has a good chance of survival, but Cunningham said it’s one of the worst cases of abuse she’s ever seen.

“The ligature marks on his legs, they are indicative of them being tied together, but we can’t say 100 per cent sure if that’s what happened,” she said.

She added he has a nasty and deep wound on his backside and the dog is about 40 pounds underweight.

The people who found George have expressed interest in adopting him, but Cunningham said their still trying to find his previous owners.

The SPCA is actively investigating the case, anyone with information is asked to call their animal cruelty line at 1-888-703-7722.
