EWTN chaplain recounts Mother Angelica’s last days

By The Associated Press

IRONDALE, Ala. – The chaplain of the Eternal World Television Network remembered its founder, Mother Mary Angelica, during a memorial sermon at the station’s headquarters and recalled the days leading up to her death on Easter Sunday.

Al.com reports (http://bit.ly/1UAoCh8) Chaplain Joseph Wolfe said Tuesday that 92-year-old Mother Angelica told nuns to do whatever they could to keep her alive because she considered her suffering an act of devotion to God.

Mother Angelica launched a television ministry out of the garage of a monastery in rural Alabama that grew into a global religious media empire. She had been in declining health since a cerebral hemorrhage on Christmas Eve in 2001.

Wolfe says Mother Angelica began crying out on Friday and nuns and priests were at her side praying when she died Sunday.
