HALIFAX – Some family physicians say they are not in step with Doctor’s Nova Scotia over the new contract reached with the province.
Doctor Nancy Bloom says some of her colleagues are concerned about the elimination of the comprehensive care incentive program that saw bonuses paid for things like nursing home visits, and obstetrical care.
Dr. Bloom said Tuesday the elimination of the program will make it even harder to recruit new doctors to the province.
“It’s really a morale busting problem, and so it’s hard for us to work in this environment — we’re going to continue to work in this environment — but it’s also hard for us to encourage colleagues from across the country to come here and say that this is a good place to set up practice,” said Bloom.
Bloom believes that she and her colleagues will continue to perform the extra duties even without the incentive because they love what they do, but say it’s going to work against efforts to get new doctors to do the same.
