HALIFAX – A 10-hour standoff over the weekend ended with the arrest of a 63-year-old Milford man.
RCMP say paramedics and fire personnel responded to a medical call at a house in Milford on Saturday afternoon around 2:30 p.m. A man inside the house threatened to burn it down while also saying he had a gun.
The emergency crews made way for RCMP officers to deal with the situation, including a crisis negotiator and a K-9 unit. Nearby residents were told to evacuate or to stay in their basements until the standoff was resolved.
The Mounties say the man threatened police before finally being arrested at 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning. A subsequent search of the house led officers to a .22 calibre rifle.
The Mildford man is being held in custody on a number of charges.
