NL fisheries minister urges Ottawa to protect migrating salmon

NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR – Newfoundland and Labrador’s fisheries minister is asking federal authorities to continue fisheries enforcement until the end of the salmon angling season.

Gerry Byrne is urging Ottawa to reconsider its decision to end a federal Fisheries guardian program before the province’s salmon angling season wraps up.

Byrne wants the program extended by 10 weeks to maintain federal enforcement while the salmon are migrating.

The salmon angling season ends in October.
