Rainfall warning in effect as kids return to school

In addition to the lunch box and new school supplies, parents are going to want to make sure their kids have rain gear on their first day back to school.

A rainfall warning is now in effect for Halifax and the eastern shore, where rainfall totals could reach 50 to 70 millimetres by Friday morning, with higher amounts possible in some localized areas.

Environment Canada says a low pressure system could bring heavy downpours, causing flash floods and water pooling on roads, but changes to the storm track could significantly alter total rainfall accumulation.

They recommend turning on headlights while driving and following other cars at a safe distance.

Forecasters expect the rain to taper off to a few showers by Thursday evening.
