Police remind residents to lock doors after recent break and enters

Halifax Regional Police say it's believed suspects in two recent break and enters got into homes through unlocked doors.
Police were called to Summit Street in Dartmouth at 8 a.m. on December 5th after homeowners awoke to find their back door open. They say several items were missing, including a cell phone, digital camera and money.
Officers were also called to Federal Avenue at 2:13 a.m. Wednesday after residents of a home were woken up by a loud noise. Police say one went downstairs and found two men in his front entryway. They ran off when he yelled at them and were last seen running toward Romans Avenue.
No one was hurt in either incident.
Police recommend locking windows and doors to reduce the risk of a break-in. They say it's also a good idea to put a piece of wood in the tracks of sliding windows and patio doors to make them more difficult to open.
Anyone noticing suspicious activity should try to get a description of the height, weight and clothing of any people. If there's a vehicle, try to note the make, model and plate number, then report that information to police by calling 902-490-5020.
