With a heat warning in effect it's hot everywhere in Nova Scotia, but it's downright tropical in Dartmouth.
Nine palm trees have popped up in the City of Lakes.
Councillor Sam Austin told NEWS 95.7's The Rick Howe Show they were planted to beautify the space.
“There's a long tradition of showcasing plants from all over the world in our parks … because not everyone has a chance to travel and, as the attention on this one shows, people are interested in plants.”
Time will tell if they'll survive the winter but Austin doesn't see the harm in trying.
The two largest trees are windmill palms.
“It's a cold-hardy variety that is reportedly capable of surviving down to -23,” Austin said on Twitter.
You can find the palm trees scattered at locations throughout Dartmouth at Ferry Terminal Park, the Dartmouth Common, Shubie Park and Sullivan's Pond.
Austin said the the trees were less than $300 each with a total price tag of $2,600.
