Jack 92.9 helps raise over $20,000 for the SPCA

Jack 92.9 has helped raise over $20,000 for the Nova Scotia SPCA.

That's more than double their original goal of $10,000.

After getting an initial $5,000 in donations, on Friday, morning show hosts Griff Henderson and Caroline Parker entered an enclosure at Mic Mac Mall, vowing to stay until they raised another $5,000.

The pair did their broadcast live starting at 5:30 a.m. When they reached their $10,000 goal by 8 a.m., they decided to keep going.

By the time they left the large fenced-in kennel at 6 p.m., $20,400 in donations had been received, the biggest one day fundraiser ever for the SPCA.

The money will be used to provide life-saving support to local animals in need.

According to the SPCA, some of the costs associated with an animal's stay at a shelter include:

  • $5 to feed an animal for the day
  • $10 for toys that provide fun and enrichment for the animals
  • $20 to keep an animal warm
  • $25 for specialty harnesses and leashes for dogs to safely enjoy long walks with our staff and volunteers
  • $50 for vaccines that each animal gets when they arrive at our shelters
  • $80 for exercise pens to give puppies and kittens a safe enclosure to play in
  • $100 for a temperature gun for our officers to determine how hot or cold a car is and if an animal is at risk

Jack 92.9 is owned by Rogers Communications, a partner of HalifaxToday.ca.
