HRM looking for ‘waste champions’ for Master Composter Recycler program

By Meghan Groff

If you're interested in waste management in Halifax, the municipality has a program for you.

Registration is now open for HRM's new Master Composter Recycler (MCR) program, which includes training sessions, hands-on workshops and facility tours.

Participants will learn how to reduce waste using several at-home methods, including backyard composting.

Twenty people will be accepted to take the eight free courses, taking place over four weeks on Wednesdays and Saturdays in May.

They will be responsible for their own transportation to and from field locations, which include the Otter Lake Waste Management Facility, the recycling facility in Bayer's Lake and the organics processing facility in Burnside.

HRM says MCR has been a popular and long-standing program in municipalities throughout North America.
