The case involving a 24-year-old Bedford man charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run in Dartmouth will return to court next month.

Matthew Gerald Kennedy is charged with criminal negligence causing death and failing to stop at scene of accident.

He was represented in court Wednesday by high-profile defence lawyer Joel Pink and according to the Nova Scotia Public Prosecution Service, the case was adjourned.

On Friday, Feb. 22, police were called to Pleasant St. in the area of the Woodside Ferry Terminal at around 5:50 a.m. where a 57-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kennedy was arrested later that afternoon after someone told police they saw an unattended parked car they felt may have been involved in the collision.

He is student at Nova Scotia Community College's Ivany Campus.

At the time of the incident, Kennedy was an independent contractor for Skywords Media, where he provided traffic and weather reporting services for some Halifax radio stations, including NEWS 95.7. NEWS 95.7 is owned by Rogers Communications, a partner of HalifaxToday.ca.

The case returns to court May 27.
