Commissionaires, union reach tentative agreement

A potential strike affecting Commissionaires working on the Halifax Harbour Bridges and with Halifax Regional police appears to have been averted. The union representing Commissionaires (Public Service Alliance of Canada Local 80375) have reached a tentative deal with their employer.

The two sides sat down for talks yesterday in a last ditch conciliation attempt to reach a deal before the union reached a legal strike position on May 31st.

Workers have been without a contract since April, and would have been able to go on strike as of Friday. However, Local 80375 president Alex Scott, on Monday, said a strike was a last resort, and was not something they wished to pursue, but in order to avoid that, they had to overcome sticking points of wages, and benefits.

The tentative deal still must be ratified, and PSAC says no details will be released until that happens.
