The new trail off Cole Harbour road connects the Salt Marsh Trail and the Shearwater Flyer Trail.
HRM says in a release Saturday that the vision for the Bissett Trail dates back to 2008, when city staff decided to create a multi-use active transportation trail that would connect important parts of the HRM Active Transportation Network and Integrated Mobility Plan.
Bissett Trail connects Colby Drive and Cole Harbour Road to Bissett Road, where the Cole Harbour Heritage Park is located.
“This trail offers another way for residents and visitors to incorporate walking, running and cycling into a healthy, active lifestyle,” said Mayor Mike Savage in the release. “This is an investment in building connected communities where everyone has an opportunity to spend time enjoying nature.”
The trail also connects the Lawrencetown Coastal Heritage Park system to other trails. The city says the Cole Harbour Parks & Trails Association played a major role in helping to plan the trail project.
A grand opening event was held this morning featuring a ribbon cutting, pipe and drum performance, and remarks from special guests.
