By Meghan Groff

Nova Scotians will pause at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month to pay tribute to our veterans.

There will be several Remembrance Day ceremonies taking place throughout the Halifax-area, and many events leading up to Monday. You can find more information here.

Here's a look at what will be open and closed this weekend for Remembrance Day:

BUSINESSES

Many businesses are prohibited from opening in Nova Scotia on Nov. 11 under the province's Remembrance Day Act.

This means you can expect most stores and businesses to be shut down Monday. This includes grocery stores, NSLCs and malls.

Many pharmacies will be open, however some may have reduced hours of operation on Monday.

Expect banks to be closed on Monday.

Several other businesses may be closed or have reduced operating hours, it's best to call ahead.

TRANSPORTATION

Halifax Transit buses and ferries will be operating on holiday service on Remembrance Day. All veterans and military personnel, along with their accompanying family members can ride for free as long as they are in uniform or display their military identification upon boarding. The offer includes registered Access-A-Bus users.

Halifax Regional Municipality says there will be a number of rolling street closures and traffic delays Monday as Remembrance Day processions make their way to local ceremonies.

SERVICES

There will be no municipal solid waste collection services on Remembrance Day. If that's your day, put out your garbage, organics and recycling on Saturday, Nov. 9 by 7 a.m.

All branches and departments of Halifax Public Libraries will be closed on Monday.

Canada Post will not be collecting or delivering mail on Monday.

Many municipally-operated recreation facilities will be closed on Remembrance Day. Residents are asked to call ahead

The Otter Lake Waste Management Facility, the Halifax Recycling Plant and composting facilities will be closed on Remembrance Day.

The Household Special Waste Depot in Bayers Lake will be closed on Saturday.

The 311 Contact Centre will be operating on regular hours, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Remembrance Day, however the five Customer Service Centres that provide in-person access to municipal services and payments will be closed.
