Woman with child in vehicle charged with impaired driving

A 29-year-old Nictaux woman faces impaired driving charges after a concerned caller contacted police and told them they thought she was impaired when she picked up a child at a child care business.

The incident occurred on February 21 at 4 p.m., when Kings District RCMP members responded. The caller provided a description of the vehicle and the licence plate number to police. 

Members of Kingston RCMP located the vehicle a short time later in Annapolis County. The driver showed signs of drug impairment and was arrested. 

The child was located safe inside the vehicle, and was placed in the care of a responsible person. The driver was taken to the Kingston RCMP detachment where she was evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE), who determined she was impaired by drugs. The driver was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Annapolis Provincial Court on May 4 at 9:30 a.m.

If you drive impaired, you put yourself and others at risk. There is always an alternative to driving while impaired. The RCMP wants to encourage everyone to report suspected impaired drivers. If it is an emergency, call 911, and be prepared to provide the following information about the vehicle and/or the driver:

• license plate number
• make and model of the vehicle
• description of the driver
• location of the vehicle and direction of travel

The investigation is ongoing.
