CFB Halifax implements measures to limit spread of COVID-19

By Dan Ahlstrand

The Department of National Defence in and around the Halifax area is bringing in some changes to the day-to-day operations in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A note sent to personnel and posted to Twitter over the weekend says that CFB Halifax is reverting to essential services across base branches.

The note says they will have a minimum of staffing in most of their departments but will fully staff essentials like emergency services.

CFB Halifax has also ended all group activities, cancelled all visits and tours, suspended all sports activities, closed the military museums in Shearwater and Halifax, and closed their messes and dining halls to all but essential services.

All defence team personnel, both military and civilian, are being asked to work from home where possible

The message says the new measures are part of an effort to ensure their operational capabilities to be able to respond to direction from the government and the current plan is to have them remain in effect for three weeks.
