Irving Shipbuilding has suspended industrial operations at the Halifax Shipyard, Marine Fabricators and Woodside Industries.
The suspension will be in place for three weeks and could be reduced or expanded.
The move will impact roughly 1,100 of the company's 1,800 workers.
“To ease the financial impact of this decision, all active unionized employees will be paid their regular base wages for Friday, March 20th and for the week of March 23rd,” says a news release from the company.
Irving is working to expand work from home options for remaining staff.
