HRM cancels curbside giveaway weekend

By CityNews Halifax Staff

Halifax Regional Municipality has cancelled its spring Curbside Giveaway Weekend that was scheduled to take place on June 6 and 7.

The municipality has also nixed the Mobile Household Special Waste event that was set to occur at Mic Mac Mall on June 13.

Both of these are the result of COVID-19, and the city says they hope residents will hold on to items they want to give away until donation centres have reopened.

“If an item is unable to be donated, residents can place it for collection in keeping with curbside collection limits,” says a release from HRM.

The next Curbside Giveaway Weekend is expected to take place during Waste Reduction Week in October.

For potentially hazardous waste, HRM recommends visiting their Household Special Waste website for information on safe storage and programs for proper disposal. The next mobile event is supposed to occur July 11 at the BMO Centre, with decisions to cancel made on a month-by-month basis.
