Suspect turns self in after shooting at Dartmouth Crossing hotel

An 18-year-old man has turned himself in after a shooting at a Dartmouth Crossing hotel early Thursday morning.
Halifax Regional Police were called to the Hampton Inn and Suites at 65 Cromarty Drive just after 12:30 a.m.
Responding officers found a 20-year-old man with a non-life threatening gunshot wound in his back. He continues to recover from his injuries.
Police say Araya James Smith of North Preston turned himself into police headquarters on Gottingen Street Saturday.
He's scheduled to appear in court Monday charged with:
- assault with a weapon
- discharge with intent
- careless use of a firearm
- pointing a firearm
- possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- unauthorized possession of a firearm
- possession of firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
- possession of a loaded firearm without authorization
- breach of recognizance (Common Law Peace Bond)
