A pub with a long history in downtown Halifax is closing its doors.

In a post on social media, the owner of the Red Stag Tavern says the bar in the historic Keith's Brewery will be shutting down effective Monday, Aug. 31.

“This year the restaurant and hospitality industry has received an insurmountable and devastating blow,” said the statement from Mike Condy.

“The collapse of the economy due to COVID-19, the enormous loss to our tourism industry, the cancellation of the cruise ship season to our city partnered with the constant struggle to meet our daily financial obligations have all factored into this hard business decision.”

Condy thanked staff, business partners, suppliers and contractors, along with the pub's loyal customers over the past 14 years.

“I invite you all to drop by over the next two weeks and let us thank you in person for all you have done and meant to us over the years.”

Condy also runs The Lower Deck Waterfront and The Lower Deck Clayton Park. He said all Red Stag gift certificates, rewards points and Groupons will be accepted at both locations.
