For this hockey season, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League is changing its schedule for the holiday season.
So far, this change has impacted four Halifax Mooseheads games including two home games.
“The league has decided, in collaboration with all of our teams, that it’s a good way to give these players a Christmas break that they otherwise wouldn’t have had this year,” he tells NEWS 95.7. “Players are used to going home. They’ve been here since August and it’s a long season from August all the way till April.”
The following games have been changed:
- Home: Mooseheads vs. Cape Breton Eagles Dec. 31 to Nov. 25
- Home: Mooseheads vs. Cape Breton Eagles Jan. 3 to Feb. 17
- Away: Mooseheads vs. Charlottetown Islanders Dec. 28 to Nov. 18
- Away: Mooseheads vs. Cape Breton Eagles Dec. 20 to Dec. 16
“The original tickets for the affected games are still valid for those rescheduled dates. Individual game ticket holders are able to exchange their tickets if they want for another game with Ticket Atlantic or receive a full refund up until Nov. 25.”
Any other ticket questions can be directed to Ticket Atlantic.
Since Nova Scotia has implemented a mandatory 14-day quarantine for anyone entering the Atlantic bubble, MacIntosh says there are likely some games in January that will also be affected. That includes games in the New Brunswick towns of Bathurst, Moncton and Saint John.
Even though players will have a two-week break from playing hockey, MacIntosh said he’s not worried.
“They’re young, there’s no rust there,” he says. “And it’s not like one team is alone in this vote. Everyone is doing it.”
Instead, he says he thinks spending time with family and friends over the holidays will benefit and re-energize the team.
“Every year we send players home for Christmas, and 2020 has been a heck of a year I guess you could say,” he says. “If we didn’t come into this season expecting that there would be some adaptations along the way or some hiccups that we would work through, then we’d be silly.
“We didn’t have this planned for ahead of time but it’s really important to get these kids home and spend some time with their families during the holidays. Everybody needs it and I think it’ll be best for the team in the long run.”
