Halifax's virtual St. Patrick's Day Parade goes this weekend.

The online broadcast will take the form of a variety show and feature acts including musicians, dancers, story tellers, jokers, bakers and more.

“It's disappointing that the parade isn't happening again this year but that doesn't mean we can't celebrate, we just need to be creative,” said parade chairman, Brian Doherty in a news release.

“We have so many talented people in our community so we're delighted to be able to showcase that talent online instead this year.”

The show starts at 1 p.m. Sunday and greetings will be provided from Halifax's Mayor Mike Savage, the Ambassador to the Irish Embassy and The Charitable Irish Society of Halifax.

“Although we have to be physically apart this year, that doesn't mean we can't celebrate St. Patrick's Day together,” said Doherty.

“This event will still be about celebrating Irish heritage with our community in Halifax, and that doesn't change whether it's in person or online.”

You'll be able to find the streaming link Sunday on the Halifax St. Patrick's Day Parade website.

Doherty also owns The Old Triangle Irish Alehouse, which put out a joint statement with Durty Nelly's to announced they both will be closed on March 17 “in the best interest of the health of our staff and potential guests.”

This is the second St. Patrick's Day impacted by COVID-19.  The 2020 version of the parade had to be cancelled as it was scheduled just as restrictions were kicking in.
