Nova Scotia now in Phase 4 of reopening plan

By Chris Halef

Nova Scotia is moving into Phase 4 of its reopening plan on Wednesday as COVID numbers continue to remain low and vaccinations continue to rise.

Starting today, retail stores can operate at full capacity and gathering limits can increase.

The province says people can have informal gatherings with their household members and close social contacts to a maximum of 25 indoors or 50 outdoors without physical distancing or masks, unless they are in a public place where masks are required.

In addition, restaurants and licensed establishments can return to their normal service hours, customers can go to the bar to order and they can have performers following the limit for arts and culture performances.

Dr. Robert Strang, Chief Medical Officer of Health, said at Monday's COVID-19 briefing they were able to move this quickly thanks to residents adhering to COVID rules.

“All of this is possible because Nova Scotians have supported a slow and steady reopening plan while we get more people fully vaccinated,” said Strang. “You have put in the hard work and we have hit Phase 4 at the earliest possible date.”

Fitness and recreation facilities such as gyms, yoga studios, pools and arenas can operate at maximum capacity with public health measures in place, including distancing and masks.

All long-term care residents can leave the facility to visit indoor and outdoor public places like parks, stores and restaurants and fully vaccinated residents can have visitors in their rooms and visit their family's home, including overnight stays.
