Two inmates escape from Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility

The search is on for two inmates who have escaped from the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility.

The Department of Justice says the pair slipped away just before 9 p.m. Thursday.

Chad Stephen Clarke had been on remand for several charges including theft of a motor vehicle, theft under $5,000, possession, and break and enter.

The 28-year-old is described as 5'10″ and around 160 pounds with light brown hair, blue eyes and a beard.

Thomas Joseph Smith was also on remand at the facility for several charges including driving while disqualified, failing to attend court, breaching conditions, robbery, possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes and carrying a concealed weapon.

The 31-year-old is described as six feet tall and about 180 pounds with brown hair, blue eyes and a beard.

The Department of Justice plans to conduct a full review of the incident.
