A man police say escaped from the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility is facing 36 charges related to several incidents over the course of 11 days.
Halifax Regional Police say 28-year-old Chad Stephen Clarke escaped from the Burnside jail on Sept. 23.
Clarke was arrested yesterday when officers tried to pull over a vehicle near Bayers Road and Ashburn Avenue that they say was stolen.
Police say Clarke was behind the wheel and refused to stop. Officers found the vehicle on nearby Frederick Avenue, where they arrested Clarke and a female passenger.
Investigators believe Clarke is responsible for multiple thefts and break and enters.
In addition to escape lawful custody, he's also being charged with nine counts of break and enter, eight counts of possession of break-in instruments, four counts of theft under $5,000, four counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and three counts of mischief (property damage), along with theft of motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, flight from police, dangerous operation of a conveyance, mail theft, attempted mail theft and failing to attend court.
He's scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court today.
