Hospitalizations remaining near record high in New Brunswick over the weekend
FREDERICTON — Hospitalizations due to COVID-19 reported Sunday in New Brunswick remain near their highest levels since the pandemic began.
The province released figures indicating 79 people are in hospital, down one from Saturday’s total of 80.
The figures include 16 patients in intensive care and 10 on ventilators.

The province also recorded one more death due to the virus, bringing the total to 172 deaths to date.
There were 201 new cases announced in New Brunswick, bringing the total to 7,933 active infections, just under one per cent of the total population.
A spokeswoman for Nova Scotia’s Health Department says the province doesn’t release hospitalization figures on weekends, but as of Friday, there were 48 people in hospital.
Nova Scotia reported 837 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday as transmission of the illness continues at a rapid rate in the province.
The bulk of the new infections — 541 — are in the central zone, which includes Halifax.

Newfoundland and Labrador reported 367 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, bringing the number of active diagnoses to 4,944. The province is reporting six virus-related hospitalizations.
