Some in cosmetology sector affected by mask restrictions can apply for grant

Some businesses and practitioners in the cosmetology sector affected by recent COVID-19 restrictions could be eligible to receive a one time grant.

The province says the $2,500 will help those directly impacted by the tightened mask requirements announced in December to deal with the wave of Omicron.

“This funding, along with the easing of restrictions this week, will help jump-start business activity in the sector,” said Minister of Economic Development Susan Corkum-Greek in a news release.

To be eligible, applicants need to have earned at least 50 per cent of revenues during 2021 from services that couldn't be performed without the removal of masks.

“Applicants can apply for an additional $2,500 grant if they earned more than $45,000 in revenue from eligible services during November 2021,” the province stated, adding proof will be required.

Applications open next Friday (February 25).

The province expects this to cost around $1 million “depending on participation.”
