A man is facing several charges after a stolen vehicle was involved in a crash in Dartmouth over the weekend.

Halifax Regional Police say an officer spotted the vehicle driving dangerously near Montebello Drive and Caledonia Road just before 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

The officer tried to stop it, but it sped off down Caledonia.

According to HRP, the driver crashed into another vehicle when he reached the Main Street intersection. The people in that vehicle weren't hurt.

Police say the driver tried to run off, but the officer was able to make an arrest.

“The vehicle had been reported stolen in August 2021 and the license plate on the vehicle had been stolen from another vehicle,” police say.

Matthew James Wright, 35, was scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court yesterday to face charges of:

  • Dangerous operation of motor vehicle
  • Flight from police
  • Resisting arrest
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Fail to stop at the scene of an accident
  • Driving while prohibited (x 7)
  • Breach of probation (x 2)
