Rainfall warning issued for Halifax

By Mark Hodgins

April showers? More like April downpours.

A rainfall warning has been issued for the Halifax area ahead of a storm expected to make for a wet and windy day on Tuesday.

Environment Canada is calling for 30 to 60 mm of rain starting around the noon hour Tuesday through to the overnight hours.

The national forecaster says downpours can cause flash flooding and pooling on roads.

There's also a special weather statement in effect cautioning of large waves, pounding surf and elevated sea water levels near high tide, which is around 11 p.m. tonight in the Halifax area.

“Storm surge and minor coastal flooding is possible along shorelines exposed to the south, especially near the high tides,” Environment Canada said. “Water levels will begin to subside overnight.”

Wind warnings have been issued for Yarmouth, Shelburne and Digby counties, and a Les Suetes wind warning is in place in Inverness county.
