Death of Nova Scotia man struck by police vehicle referred to watchdog agency: RCMP

ADDINGTON FORKS, N.S. — The RCMP say they have referred a fatal collision involving one of their officers to the province’s police watchdog.

The Mounties say a 22-year-old Antigonish, N.S., man was struck and killed by an RCMP vehicle along the Trans-Canada Highway in Addington Forks, N.S., at around 10:35 p.m. Wednesday.

Police say they were responding to a report of a man who was walking on the highway and possibly into traffic when the accident occurred.

The man died at the scene.

Meanwhile, police say a man showed up at the PIctou, N.S., RCMP detachment today to report that he had struck an unknown object along the same area of the highway on Wednesday night.

RCMP say their investigators and investigators with the watchdog agency, the Serious Incident Response Team, are trying to determine whether the two incidents are related.
