Ground breaks on Halifax Common Aquatics Facility

Ground has officially broken on the Halifax Common Aquatics Facility.

It will include a 13,500 square foot pool that can hold up to 450 people and a new playground.

It will also have a year-round pavilion with a community room, kitchenette and modular stage for performers.

Halifax Regional Municipality says those heading to the Commons will notice significant construction.

The existing splash pad and skatepark will remain open, but the asphalt basketball court will be closed.

A temporary play structure will be put up near the corner of Bell Road and Trollope Street as the existing playground is dismantled.

The existing pavilion building is also being torn down.

The pool will remain closed, but Haligonians can head to the Needham Community Centre throughout summer for free swims.

The new outdoor aquatics facility was approved by regional council in late 2019.

It's expected to open to the public next summer.
