Plans underway for on-campus housing at NSCC’s Ivany Campus

Plans for on-campus, student housing at a Nova Scotia Community College site in Dartmouth are underway.

Several public tenders have been issued for a project at the Ivany Campus near the waterfront.

The closing date for each is Aug. 30.

According to a tender document, the student residence will be built next to an existing parking area, not far from a multi-use trail popular with walkers, joggers and cyclists.

Tenders have been posted online covering such things as concrete formwork, masonry, steel and waterproofing.

Last October, the provincial government announced it will build dormitories at three community college campuses: Akerley, Ivany and Pictou.

An Ivany Campus website says on-campus housing is to be available starting in the 2024-25 school year.

A government release last year said the province will be preparing “a provincewide student housing strategy” as part of its response to the housing crisis in Nova Scotia.
