Mooseheads suffer first regulation loss of season

By Mark Hodgins

The Mocton Wildcats handed the Halifax Mooseheads their first regulation loss of the young season in a matinee matchup on Sunday.

Halifax would be first on the board in this one, as Atillio Biasca fired home his third of the season from a sharp angle to open the scoring.

After the Wildcats tied the game, Jordan Dumais would put the Moose in front once again just 2:45 into the second frame. But Moncton pushed back again, evening the game at 2 goals apiece before Cole Bishop put the Wildcats on top heading into the third period.

Moncton would extend the lead to 4-2 early in the third as a shot through traffic from Miles Mueller took an unfriendly bounce and evaded Halifax goalie Mathis Rousseau.

And the Wildcats didn't let up there. The New Brunswick club made it 5-2 just minutes later off Alex Mercier's first of the season.

Atillio Biasca would bring the game back to within two with a powerplay marker to make it 5-3 with just minutes left in the game, but Moncton would hold on for the win.

The Mooseheads record fell to 4-1-1 with the loss.

Halifax will be back in action on Thursday night when they visit Charlottetown. Catch the game on CityNews 95.7 starting with the pre-game show at 6:30 p.m.
