The man charged in the death of Halifax battle rapper Pat Stay is facing new charges for a murder that stems back to 2016.

Adam Drake, 31, was arraigned on Monday on a charge of first-degree murder one year after the original charge was dropped by the Crown.

Drake is also facing charges the stabbing death of Stay in downtown Halifax on Sept. 4.

The acclaimed rapper's death led to an outpouring of tributes from fans and such music stars as Eminem.

Drake is now facing reinstated charges for the 2016 murder of Tyler Keizer.

Reinstated on Monday in Provincial Court after being dropped in October 2021, the Crown originally stated there was “no longer reasonable prospect of conviction”.

Keizer was in a sports utility vehicle on Gottingen St. when he was shot in Nov. 2016, later dying in hospital.

Outside the Halifax Provincial courthouse, Keizer's mother told reporters she didn’t really think she would see this day.

Defence lawyer Ian Hutchison asked that the case be adjourned for about a month to allow him to receive disclosure of the evidence from the Crown.
