Eagles defeat Mooseheads 5-3

By CityNews Halifax Staff

The Cape Breton Eagles defeated the Halifax Mooseheads 5-3 on Friday.

Braeden MacPhee opened up the scoring near the midway point of the first period to give Halifax a 1-0 lead.

Trevor Thurston tied things up in the second period with his first goal in the QMJHL.

Jack Martin restored the Herd's lead but it was short-lived as Cam Squires evened things up minutes later to make it 2-2 heading into the third period.

Cameron Henderson and Xavier Daigle put the Eagles up 4-2.

Mathieu Cataford brought Halifax within one but Cape Breton's Olivier Houde scored an empty netter to make it a 5-3 final in the Eagles' favour.

The Mooseheads are back in the Scotiabank Centre on Sunday when they welcome the Saint John Sea Dogs.
