Three N.S. students set to play women’s hockey for Team Canada at World University Games

Three Nova Scotia student-athletes will be heading to the Winter World University Games to play for Team Canada in women's hockey.

The tournament is part of the International University Sports Federation's World University Games, which features several thousand student-athletes competing in each bi-annual event.

Shae Demale of Saint Mary's University is one of those selected for the 22-player roster.

The SMU Huskies women's hockey forward currently sits second in the AUS in goals with 12, second in shots on goal with 94 and third in points with 22. Last season, she was named Atlantic University Sport MVP.

As well, Saint Francis Xavier University teammates Lea MacLeod of Dartmouth, and Falmouth-native Maggy Burbidge will also represent Canada, the latter leading university sports in goals and points as of Dec. 14.

The Team Canada squad opens its schedule on January 11 against Slovakia with games taking place in host city, Lake Placid, New York.
