Halifax is waking up to a blanket of snow, it's a very thin blanket, but it's there for the first time in the city this winter.
You'll need time to brush and scrape off your windshield if you're driving somewhere and expect to see an occasional snowplow on your way.
You may also encounter an slick spot here or there. Halifax Regional Police are asking drivers to use caution. “Slow down and be mindful of everyone on the road,” police said on Twitter.
Environment Canada has ended its special weather statement for the Halifax area. The forecast continues to call for periods of snow mixed with ice pellets and a risk of freezing rain on Thursday.
That's supposed to change over to rain this evening, with a risk of freezing rain remaining inland.
Halifax Regional Centre for Education schools, along with CSAP schools in the Halifax area are open today.
There are some schools closures in other parts of the province, including the South Shore Regional Centre for Education, schools in Digby County and schools in Annapolis County.
Halifax hasn't seen a lot of snow yet this winter, with only 1.4 cm recorded at the airport in all of December.
