Rainfall warning returns for Halifax area

By Meghan Groff

A rainfall warning is back in effect for the Halifax area as a freezing rain warning continues Sunday morning.

Environment Canada expects the morning flurries/ice pellets to change over to rain, although freezing rain could linger longer inland.

“Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery,” the freezing rain warning stated.

“Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break.”

By Sunday afternoon, that rain could be heavy at times, and it's supposed to stick around until Monday evening, with a total of 25 to 45 mm expected.

There's even a risk of thundershowers in the forecast for Monday afternoon.

“Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible,” the rainfall warning said.

“If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.”
