Two charged in relation to shooting last summer near Halifax Common

Two people have been charged in relation to a shooting last summer near the Halifax Common.

Halifax Regional Police were called to Cunard Street at around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6 where they found a 31-year-old man with gun shot wounds.

He was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say they arrested a woman at the scene in relation to an outstanding warrant for another matter. 

Megan Alana Lake, 29, has been charged with the following in relation to the shooting:

  • Robbery
  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace
  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm without a license
  • Discharging a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm contrary to a court order (two counts)
  • Failure to comply with conditions of a release order (two counts)

Officers arrested a second suspect Thursday night.

Thomas Junior Downey, 36, is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court today to face charges of:

  • Possession of a restricted/prohibited firearm with ammunition
  • Possession of a firearm without a license
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace
  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Use of a firearm in the commission of an offence
  • Robbery with a firearm
  • Aggravated assault
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Discharging a firearm with intent
  • Failure to comply with conditions of a release order
