Service changes take effect at Halifax Transit

By CityNews Halifax Staff

Big changes coming to Halifax transit starting today.

As of Monday morning, 36 bus routes are seeing changes from cancelled trips to adjusted schedules.

Three routes, numbers 41, 178 and 179, all serving the Dartmouth and Cole Harbour areas, are being suspended entirely. Halifax Transit says no community is completely losing service with these changes.

These adjustments come as Halifax Transit continues to struggle with staffing, leading to chronic cancellations.

Local transit union president Shane O'Leary telling CityNews, morale among drivers has never been lower, with concerns about safety, working conditions and pay.

“Transit is a service everybody needs and deserved, it should be run properly, it should be run on time and it should be staffed,” O'Leary said. “People should be lining up to work for this municipality and they're not. We've had, I don't know, 14 resignations so far this year with people going 'I'm done with this place'.”

For a full list of the impacts of the changes you can head to the city's website, Halifax.ca.
