HRCE changes course, cancels Tuesday classes at Charles P. Allen

By CityNews Halifax Staff

The Halifax Regional Centre for Education has cancelled a planned return to class on Tuesday afternoon for students at the Bedford high school, where two staff members were stabbed the day before.

In an email to families just after 11 a.m. Tuesday, HRCE's acting regional director Steve Gallagher announced the change of plans.

“There is a change in plans for Charles P. Allen students this afternoon. Classes are cancelled, based on recommendations from HRCE's Crisis Team,” Gallagher wrote. “The school will be open and supports are available for any student who wishes to talk.”

In an email on Monday night, HRCE had said classes would resume at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday. Gallagher offered an apology for the late notice.

Halifax Regional Police responded to the school around 9:20 a.m. Monday. Two staff members and a student, who was arrested, were taken to the hospital. The school later closed for the day.

Police have yet to provide any information on the extent of their injuries.
