Mooseheads advance to round 3 of playoffs after 7-3 win over Moncton

By CityNews Halifax Staff

The Halifax Mooseheads are moving on to round three of the QMJHL playoffs after defeating the Moncton Wildcats 7-3 in game five of their best-of-seven series.

The Mooseheads opened up the scoring early in the opening frame as Mathieu Cataford found the back of Moncton’s net.

Moncton’s Maxim Barbashev tied things up a few minutes later with Trent Ballentyne giving Moncton their first lead of the game.

Atillio Biasca tied things up late in the first period to make it 2-2 heading into the second.

Jordan Dumais restored Halifax’s lead with Jake Furlong and Evan Boucher making it 5-2 after 40 minutes.

Gabe Smith brought the Wildcats back within two but empty netters from Josh Lawrence and Dumais helped seal the deal and eliminate the Wildcats.

The Mooseheads will now take on the Sherbrooke Phoenix in round three of the playoffs with game one set to take place Saturday at Scotiabank Centre.
