Nova Scotia firefighters head to NWT to battle wildfires

A crew of firefighters from Nova Scotia has left the province to provide aid to those battling fires in other parts of the country.

The department of natural resources said around 20 of its firefighters are heading to the Northwest Territories on Thursday. The crew left Halifax Stanfield at about 7:15 a.m.

They’re expected to help fight a fire near Yellowknife. The latest update from the Northwest Territories said there were 10 active fires impacting more than 17,000 hectares of land.

Nova Scotia said it will be ready to recall its firefighters if the situation at home calls for it.
