By CityNews Halifax Staff

HRM officials say over 150 homes have been destroyed by wildfires currently raging on in the Tantallon area.

That according to Roy Hollett, deputy chief with Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency, who says there may be more.

“Now that’s our number. That’s an assessment, there may be more,” he said. “When we visited the sites, there could be another structure behind the one that we seen but there are 151 residential properties, there’s nothing left.”

It is estimated 200 structures have been impacted, but a full assessment of the damage cannot be confirmed yet.

The fire has forced the city to implement evacuation orders for multiple areas, impacting over 16,400 residents.

HRM has released a map of the fires in Tantallon which includes information on areas of significant impact and evacuation areas.

The city says all residents and businesses with property in the area of significant impact are required to register with 311.
