Severe thunderstorm watch ends for Halifax area, remains for southern parts of province

Environment Canada has ended the Severe Thunderstorm watch for areas around HRM and further north in the province, but it remains in effect south of the city.

The national forecaster says the watch remains in effect for a region stretching from Hubbards westerly towards Wolfville and south to the southern tip of the province

A watch is issued when conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may produce strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

Environment Canada says the main issue with this latest storm is that some could see torrential rainfall of 25-50 millimetres, which can cause flash flooding and water pooling on roadways.  The watch also says that intense lightning is possible with these kinds of thunderstorms.

In HRM there is still a chance of a thunderstorm developing Wednesday evening before conditions start to improve.  Fog is expected in some areas through Thursday morning, but there is some sun in the forecast to dry things out a bit.  The forecast calls for high humidity tomorrow that could push the feel-like temperatures into the high 30’s
