Bacteria closes Kearney Lake and Albro Lake Beaches

Those looking for relief from the summer heat cannot do so at Kearney Lake and Albro Lake beaches.
HRM says the two beaches have been closed until further notice after high bacteria levels were found during water testing. The municipality says staff regularly test the water quality at all supervised municipal beaches and two unsupervised beaches during the summer months. Recent test results indicate bacteria levels at these beaches exceed Health Canada swimming guidelines.
The city says several factors can lead to increased bacteria levels, including dogs, birds, wildlife and impacts from climate change.
HRM says staff will continue testing the water until bacteria levels return to safe levels, and residents will be told when the beach reopens.
