Students feeling Halifax’s housing crunch as college school year nears
As the start of the college year, Halifax’s housing crisis is taking its toll on students.
The executive director of Students Nova Scotia says students searching for accommodation are facing a dilemma.
Georgia Saleski says lack of supply and the rising cost of living is causing some post-secondary students to reconsider their education.

She told CityNews Halifax that she has spoken to several students who say they will have to drop out if they can’t find housing.
“There just really isn’t enough information for students, let alone supply of housing,” she says. “Typically, students are going on to Facebook Marketplace or Kijiji in order to find the places they are living on, which puts them at risk of fraud and scams.”
She adds international students are particularly vulnerable to being taken for granted.
Saleski says students need more access to information about the risks associated with the housing market.
She insists governments and institutions must come together to address the issue of housing for students.
