Last month, the province replaced Justice Warrant Zimmer, who was overseeing the Inquiry into the case of Afghanistan war veteran Lionel Desmond, who killed three family members and himself in 2017 and appointed Judge Paul Scovil to take over all responsibilities related to the Inquiry.
In a media release distributed Tuesday, the Nova Scotia Judiciary says the Inquiry will re-open for at least one day beginning next Sept. 12 as Judge Scovil felt it essential that counsel have an opportunity to make final submissions before he prepares his report and recommendations.
Closing submissions from counsel and the parties had initially occurred in April 2022.
The Inquiry proceedings will begin at 9:30 a.m. next Tuesday at the Port Hawkesbury courthouse. The proceedings will also be live-streamed on the Inquiry’s website.
